Reels

Through the process of making prototypes and iterations, I’ve been able to edit and make content to better cater to my users. I experimented with changing my video format to use the reels feature on Instagram but found that this didn’t perform as well with my audience so I’ve stuck to posting videos. By observing my users, I’ve uncovered that the visual aspects of my DA bring the most engagement, when I’ve spent more time making it look good and fit my theme (vintage film aesthetic) I get more positive feedback. So I’ve found ways, (overlays and editing techniques) in my editing process to stylise the content in the style that is the most popular with my audience. Therefore, I can sustain that community and bring in more people initially with the visuals and have them stay for the feminist content.

Editing a vintage style

By making my content more educational I have had to educate myself and seek inspiration from other content creators, I get my main inspiration from the following Instagram’s: @feminist, @curatedbygirls, @chicksforclimate @vulgadrawings, @farida.d.author and @florencegiven. While aesthetically I pull inspirations from: @sarahbahbah and @petrafcollins.

Inspiration

I really enjoy the editing process and being able to share my work with an audience has been fulfilling and a driving in force in why I’ve continued to create consistent content for my page. Going forward I’ve been wanting to make longer more extensive videos, including maybe voice over and multiple clips, but with my schedule I haven’t been able to yet, in the mean time, I have continued to make the short edits to maintain engagement. I’m also excited to try different editing styles that still cater to the aesthetic I’ve established with my audience. The reading on glitch art, has inspired me to explore how to make it and incorporate it into my DA, the description of glitch art as a “controlled imperfection” appeals to me and I’m excited to attempt to explore this with my prototypes.
